The research and design units widely use up-to-date computer-aided design systems (CAD).

Software tools for automation of planning and management of all activity areas are an essential instrument for enhancing efficiency of any modern enterprise.

VNIIA has been creating and implementing such tools since the beginning of 1970s. By the beginning of 1980s VNIIA had already had a powerful ES EVM-based integrated automated planning and management system (enterprise I&C) developed by the enterprise employees. Considering the leading role of these experts, the industry-level I&C laboratory was established at VNIIA. The planning and management system was further upgraded and developed as new software and computational tools appeared. In modern terminology, CALS, ERP, PDM, and MES-type systems were created. In recent years these systems have been interconnected with various CAD systems widely implemented by the research, design and engineering units of the Institute. A significant portion of the software tools providing effective planning and management are the original products developed by VNIIA specialists that outperform commercially available software.

Currently, planning and management of the activities of all the units of the Institute are implemented using continuously developed Corporate Information & Management System (CIMS) based on network methods, regularly updated labor-intensiveness standards and databases covering all the types of resources, as well as implementation of CALS-ERP technology.

VNIIA has a unique data-computing base and broad infrastructure to maintain distributed interaction of VNIIA specialists with the scientific community. VNIIA created a unique Supercomputer Center (SC) to provide high-performance computing. It provides processing of almost one thousand daily calculations. The SC has a multi-cluster architecture, including two high-performance supercomputer clusters of several hundred teraflops total peak performance.

In order to support scientific and operational activities, VNIIA created a corporate computer network (CCN) using up-to-date communication technology and a high-performance communication and server hardware. Each VNIIA’s site has its local CCN segment. All segments are connected via fiber-optic channels enabling to transmit information at up to 1 Gb/s rate. High rate of data transfer between the sites allows more than 3,500 users to work comfortably and without delay with information resources that are located on the central site.

The data- computing base of the Institute also includes a system of professional 3D design equipment with a room for deep immersion into virtual reality. These tools allow simulating and trying out complicated kinematic processes in the developed products at the initial design stages, and optimizing procedures and conditions of human interaction with the equipment during its operation.
